Ballroom Dance Club
The Yale Ballroom Dance Club is a satellite of the team for non-competitive members.
Club lessons focus on American and social dances (listed in the About section).
These lessons are designed for those who want to learn to dance at a casual but thorough pace, without the
commitment and pressure of competitive ballroom dancing. You need not come with
a partner, and no prior experience is required.
Our lesson schedule can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
The first lesson is free, so if you are interested in seeing what ballroom is about, feel free to just show up. Lessons are held on
Sunday afternoons at the Payne-Whitney Gymnasium in the 5th floor main exercise room. If you are interested in joining us for the 2016 fall semester,
or have any further questions, please e-mail our Captain.
Our instructor for club lessons is Karen Pfrommer. She began her teaching
career in 1982 at the Boston Arthur Murray Dance Studio and taught at the Arthur
Murray Dance Studios in Boston, Warwick, and Hamden for nine years. In 1988, she
won the Northeast Regional Dance Championship with her partner. She opened her
own dance studio in 1991 and continues to own it. She is certified with High
Honors by the American and English branches of the Imperial Society of Teachers
of Dance (ISTD) in Theatre Arts, American Style Smooth and Rhythm, and
International Style Standard. Over the past 6 years, she has judged many collegiate
ballroom competitions. She is a member of the National Dance Council of America
(NDCA) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD).
