Ballroom Dance Club

The Yale Ballroom Dance Club is a satellite of the team for individuals and couples who enjoy social dancing. Club lessons teach dances like waltz, foxtrot, tango, salsa, merengue, bachata, swing, and hustle/disco. These lessons are designed for those who want to learn to dance at a casual but thorough pace, without the commitment and pressure of competitive ballroom dancing. You need not come with a partner, and no prior experience is required.

This semester's lesson series started on January 27. They are held Sundays 1:45-2:30pm (beginner level), 1:45-2:30pm (intermediate level), and 2:30-3:15pm (advanced/team level) at Payne-Whitney Gymnasium (70 Tower Parkway, New Haven, CT), in the 5th floor main exercise room. Lessons cost $65 for the semester and club members are welcome to attend any or all of the lessons as appropriate (e.g. 10 lessons = $6.50 per lesson). Consider the first two weeks a complimentary trial, and lesson dues will be collected on February 10.

The instructor for the club lessons is Karen Pfrommer. She began her teaching career in 1982 at the Boston Arthur Murray Dance Studio and taught at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Boston, Warwick, and Hamden for nine years. In 1988, she won the Northeast Regional Dance Championship with her partner. She opened her own dance studio in 1991 and continues to own it. She is certified with High Honors by the American and English branches of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) in Theatre Arts, American Style Smooth and Rhythm, and International Style Standard. Over the past 6 years she has judged many collegiate ballroom competitions. She is a member of the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD).
